Webseries: Dragon Age: Redemption

Dragon Age: Redemption is a web series made by Felicia Day, based on the game with the same name.

Dragon Age II is a fantasy RPG developed by BioWare's Edmonton studios, and published by Electronic Arts. It is the second major game in BioWare's Dragon Age franchise. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Mac OS X on March 8, 2011 in North America, March 10, 2011 in Australia and March 11, 2011 in Europe.
Set in the same mythical world introduced in Dragon Age: Origins, the player assumes the role of Hawke, a human mage, warrior, or rogue who arrives in the city of Kirkwall as a lowly refugee but becomes its legendary champion over a turbulent decade of political and social conflict.

Although I have never played this game, I really enjoyed this web series. It kind of reminded me of playing D&D roleplaying games, which I have done for over 10 years. I like the world, the creatures were well made, and the actors were awesome of course. I also really liked to see the character relations, and the character development.

Testing Podcasts: Bagged & Boarded

As I have mentioned before I am currently checking out geeky podcasts. I have listened to several not so good, and not my type of geeks podcasts. Some are ok ones, and some very good ones though. But yesterday I found this gem. I downloaded it a while ago, since he is represented Kevin Smiths SModcast site. But I didn't listen to it before now.

Matt Choen is a movie and TV-series geek, just like me! The thing that really got me with this one was simply that he was discussing things I know about, and love. As I understand we don't share the same views about every show, but it doesn't matter. He talks about them on his podcasts and it's good enough for me! This podcast might actually slide right into first place, over Nerdist. I haven't heard enough of it yet to say for sure. But what I did hear would suggest so. Can't wait to listen to the episode where he has Chris Hardwick as a guest though, just downloaded that one. It should be fun, and loaded with Doctor Who and Walking Dead talk.

Matt Cohen (born October 11, 1984) is the host/creator of Bagged & Boarded a geek-chat podcast hosted on the SmodCast Network and the producer/engineer of Mohr Stories hosted by Jay Mohr; also on the Smodcast network. Matt was the co-owner and theater manager of Kevin Smith's short-lived SmodCastle.  Matt is also the founder and president of Camel Toad Productions, his own production company.

Matt Choen has also just started hosting another podcast in the SModcast universe, but I haven't had the time to check it out yet. I did download an episode that mentioned a Fringe reference in the description though.

Webseries: The Guild

I started watching The Guild a year or two ago, and I got totally hooked. I had never seen a web-series before, and I loved the concept. And I loved the topic also. I have played WoW, although I never was a big guild player, so I knew the basics of what they were all about.
By the way: I love Felicia Day, the main creator and star of the show, and I will dedicate a whole post to her later on, so I won’t go on about that here.

The Guild is a independent sitcom web series about a group of online gamers. The show started in the late summer of 2007, and for the first season was financed solely by Paypal donations from LOYAL FANS. Since season 2, The Guild has been distributed by Xbox Live and Microsoft and sponsored by Sprint.
Episodes vary from 3-8 minutes in length, and follow the Guild members’ lives online and offline.
“The Guild” has won numerous awards, including the SXSW, YouTube and Yahoo Web Series Awards in 2008, and 3 Streamy Awards in 2009: Best Comedy Web Series, Best Ensemble, and Best Actress for Felicia Day.

The Guild is about a group of very different people gaming together as a guild in a game called The Game. Before the series starts they have never met, and are not especially interested in each other’s private lives. All that matters is the guild. That changes when Codex, the main character, gets one of the guild members on the door telling her he’s going to sleep on her sofa because he just moved out of his mother’s house. This is the start of the funny and weird adventure where the guild members get to know each other in person, and eventually become friends. There are of course many other things that happens in the show too, but that would be spoilers. And I try not to do them too much on this blog.
What I can say is that as the show grows they have a lot of good geeky cameos and guest stars. Some of my favorites is Wil Wheatons recurring role, and the cameos of Neil Gaiman and Stan Lee.

So all that is left to say is that if you haven't seen it, here is the first episode of season 1. See it, enjoy it, get totally hooked.

 

Meme: Filosoraptor

Of all the memes around the internet Filosoraptor is my all-time favorite. I have had serious discussions about things on Filosoraptor pictures. But they can be dangerous, as in you can keep yourself awake at night if you start wondering one of the Filosoraptor questions.

Since actor Tom Hiddleston is over 6’5” and had worked closely with director Kenneth Branagh before, he figured he had as good a shot as anyone at the part. He actually made it to the final five auditionees, and was given six weeks to put on weight and add some muscle to his lean frame. Despite these physical improvements, Branagh believed Hiddleston’s innate intelligence made him better suited to play Thor’s devious younger brother, Loki. Tom admits he is still a bit disappointed about the whole thing, but he knows that he could not have played the part as well as Chris Hemsworth did. It’s kind of funny though - after all that protein and weight gain, Hiddleston had to LOSE weight in order to give him an appropriately gaunt and hungry look!

In Japan they have square watermelons.

They get square watermelons by growing them inside of square glass cases. That way they can fit easily into a refrigerator, and you can stack things on them. Square watermelons are expensive though (10,000 yen or about $82). Compare that to regular round watermelons which cost about $15-20 in Japan.

I own an HTC Desire HD, an Android smartphone by HTC Corporation.

Hardware:
The smartphone has an aluminium unibody design with the Android Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) with HTC Sense. On the back, there are two plastic covers, one contains the battery, while the other contains the SIM card and the microSDHC card. It features a 4.3-inch class WVGA TFT LCD capacitive touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera (can record 720p video) and support for HSPA/W-CDMA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE.
It is the first phone to use the new 1 GHz MSM8255 Scorpion CPU. This second generation Snapdragon processor uses a low-power 45-nm process technology for higher integration and efficiency, and the Adreno 205 more than doubles the performance of the Adreno 200 GPU. This allows for longer talk and standby times than the original HTC Desire even with a smaller capacity battery.
The HTC Desire HD has 768 MB RAM and 1.5 GB of internal flash memory data storage. There is also a single microSDHC slot, which can accept a microSDHC card with a capacity of up to 32 GB of data storage.

I am extremely happy about my cellphone. I fell in love with it from the day I bought it, and I use it for almost everything. I go online, listen to podcasts, read books, take notes, take pictures, use the calendar, read mail, call, text message, play games and so on. Mostly I use it for social networking though. There's apps for almost everything for it. My most used ones I have downloaded are Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, Evernote and Kindle Reader. (I will probably write some more about my favourite Android apps in a later post).

 

 

Trying Tumblr

Well this is a weird one... I'm talking about my blog on my blog. But Tumblr isn't like your regular blog. Or, that was what I was told. So I decided that since I have become such an avid internet user, I should check it out. And it turns out my "sistah of anotha motha" also uses it, even better! So decided to find out how it is all done. Here is what Tumbler sais about itself:

And if you know me, you know that wasn't enough for me. So I turned to the site I always go to for internet questions: MakeUseOf
I right away found what I was looking for: How To Easily Create a Blog with Tumblr

So I did. Make a Tumblr blog that is (and here it is). It was pretty easy when using the above how-to-site. And I found out that half the clue with Tumblr is reposting what others have posted. Since I'm a very uncreative person this is great for me! It has this great feature where you search for tags and then you find posts you think fits how you see the world and what you are interested in, and then you reblog that. It should be a lot less time consuming than this kind of blog, when you don't have to write yourself. This is not the case, because you get so lost in time while browsing tags!

This is kind of the same project I have as the "learning Twitter" one. And I find I like this one too. Right now this blog is the hardest to keep up with, since I write most of it myself. But I keep at it for now, hoping I will become a better writer because of it.

But the conclusion is that I will keep the Tumblr blog too. I will see it there is a widget on this blog for Tumblr, thought I doubt it. It would be nice to have all my social sites collected though. (Except Facebook...I'm keeping that one private.)

 

Whip tries out podcasts: Nerdist.com ( @nerdist )

I decided to try out podcasts, as the title suggests. So I searched the net for podcasts I thought would interest me, bookmarked a few, and then forgot all about it. Then I got into my internet/geeky phase a few weeks ago, and got reminded of one of the podcasts on Twitter. Turns out that many of the people I admire in the geek world have been guests on this podcast named nerdist.com. So I decided to check it out. Since my cellphone provider just granted me free internet on my phone for 6 months I decided to download some of the podcasts on my phone. And as soon as I started listening to them, I was hooked.

Chris Hardwick (@nerdist) is a “professional stand-up comedian and a self proclaimed nerd” says the “about” section of nerdist.com. He is the main drive behind this podcast, and he is joined by Jonah Ray (Jonah Ray on Tumblr /@jonahray) and Matt Mira (@MattMira). I think nerdist.com can classify as a comedy podcast with a very geeky/nerdy touch.

What did I think? I love this podcast!!! (Yes it does deserve three exclamation points). I admit that I don’t get all the references, and not being a Dr. Who fan is not a plus for this one. But all in all they talk about stuff I like, and I find myself laughing out loud very often. Some of the people I’m a fan of, and that has visited the show includes:
