It's Xmas morning! In Norway we celebrate on Xmas Eve, and Xmas morning is just for relaxing and eating good food. Which I have done, and now I am sitting in front of the fireplace in the kitchen drinking a latte and blogging. The radio is on and my parents and I are the only ones up yet. My 3 siblings are dead to the world still.
Oh my, this blog pause thing is becoming a habit. But I will still take a break. I'm going to Oslo to visit some friends, and finnish off my xmas shopping. I will try to make a few blog posts when I get back, but the xmas time will be a busy one for me. Lots of working and being social and parties and family time and so on. I promise that after New Years I will be more regular in my blogging.
But as earlier you can read my geeky Tumblr blog if you want to. I have qued a lot of stuff there.
I will leave you with a few of my favorite geeky pictures. See you after the weekend!!
I am sure most people in the world knows what PostSecret is by now. And if you don't, google it and then go to this website: PostSecret
I won't say much about it, since everyone get it by now. But I do want to add that I'm a bit annoyed that the iPhone app has been available for a long time now, but they can't seem to ever release the Android one!!
That being said, here is my favorite PostSecrets in no particular order:
As I have mentioned before I am currently checking out geeky podcasts. I have listened to several not so good, and not my type of geeks podcasts. Some are ok ones, and some very good ones though. But yesterday I found this gem. I downloaded it a while ago, since he is represented Kevin Smiths SModcast site. But I didn't listen to it before now.
Matt Choen is a movie and TV-series geek, just like me! The thing that really got me with this one was simply that he was discussing things I know about, and love. As I understand we don't share the same views about every show, but it doesn't matter. He talks about them on his podcasts and it's good enough for me! This podcast might actually slide right into first place, over Nerdist. I haven't heard enough of it yet to say for sure. But what I did hear would suggest so. Can't wait to listen to the episode where he has Chris Hardwick as a guest though, just downloaded that one. It should be fun, and loaded with Doctor Who and Walking Dead talk.
Matt Cohen (born October 11, 1984) is the host/creator of Bagged & Boarded a geek-chat podcast hosted on the SmodCast Network and the producer/engineer of Mohr Stories hosted by Jay Mohr; also on the Smodcast network. Matt was the co-owner and theater manager of Kevin Smith's short-lived SmodCastle. Matt is also the founder and president of Camel Toad Productions, his own production company. Wikipedia
Matt Choen has also just started hosting another podcast in the SModcast universe, but I haven't had the time to check it out yet. I did download an episode that mentioned a Fringe reference in the description though.
Zebras are several species of African equids (horse family) united by their distinctive black and white stripes. Their stripes come in different patterns unique to each individual. They are generally social animals that live in small harems to large herds. Unlike their closest relatives, horses and asses, zebras have never been truly domesticated. Wikipedia
Fact: Black stripes on white or white stripes on black? Some zebras are born with unfully formed stripes that seem to indicate a black background, pigment, or skin color with white stripes. But, how can zebra stripes be useful for camouflage? Since a lion, one of the zebra's main predators, is color blind, the pattern of the zebra's stripes is more crucial than color for the zebra to blend with its background. A mass of blended stripes from a large, moving group of zebras makes it difficult for the lion to plan an attack on any specific zebra. Like fingerprints, zebras have uniquely identifiable stripes -- useful to one another and scientists. They seem to get some kind of pleasure from looking at stripes. Stripes seem to be so important to the zebra that black and white stripes painted on a wall will attract zebras to group near the wall. Fun Zebra Pictures & Facts
I just love zebras, so I can't have a blog with all the things I like without a post about them. <3
As you probably already know by now I'm watching the Doctor Who series at the moment. I'm only on season two yet, and still trying to get used to the new Doctor.
So I was sitting on my computer playing games and listening to a podcast I'm trying out called Geek Chicks, and they were talking about a funny YouTube video made by the cast and crew of Doctor Who. I saw it, and thought it was funny, so here you are.
Ps. I will try to do the blog daily again starting today. I'm starting to get better, so now I have no excuses.
I'm sick so I haven't written on the blog lately. My head is just not up for writing, and I try not to be a copy and paste kind of girl. But I'm getting slowly better, so I hope to be back blogging some time this week.
But if you miss me and my geekyness much you can read my Tumblr blog until I'm back. I think I even have some stuff queued there still. My Tumblr! Different kind of blog, but filled with geeky goodness.
I am in love with the graphic novels of ElfQuest and have been ever since I was very little. I will write more about this graphic novel later. But I was listening to the podcast Geekshow, which I will also write about later, and they had an interview with Wendy Pini, the creator of ElfQuest. She said they are talking about a movie, but they have been for years, so nothing is set in stone. But there is this YouTube video that is a fanmade trailer made by a group of actresses. When Wendy Pini mentions it it must be good, so I saw it, and loved it!! And it also inspired me to reread the whole series. And I can, online (I only have the first parts yet in paperback). They have posted all of the story online for free here: ElfQuest.com
So while waiting for me to do reread and write about it, watch the fan trailer:
My favorite musician is Unni Wilhelmsen. It has been since I was 14 and bought her first album. As I write this I am 28, and the fact that she’s my favorite has never wavered in the last 14 years.
I guess I can call it part of my brains “split personality” traits. My music genera of choice have been metal and hard rock since around the age of 15, and Unni Wilhelmsen is calmer and not so anger based. But her voice and lyrics have always spoken to me, and she is the only musician/band I have kept “faithful” to for all these years, and I will keep buying her albums as long as she makes them.
I have been to two concerts with Unni, and both were awesome. She is even better live than on her albums, which is saying something if you have heard the albums. The first time I saw her life I went alone to her concert at Samfundet in Trondheim. Not sure which year this was, but it could be 2004. As I sat there alone in the dark, listening to the woman whose songs I grew up with tell stories about how the songs I love and which mean so much to me was written, tears were streaming down my face. It was one of the biggest experiences of my life, and I don’t think I have told anyone before how much this moved me. The second time I went with one of my cousins to Olavshallen in Trondheim. I was actually a bit skeptic, because Unni had made an album in Norwegian. And I’m not much for artists singing in Norwegian. I hadn’t even bought the album, but since she was once again in Trondheim I just had to go. This was in 2006. Needless to say the concert was once again awesome. And Unni became my one exception when it comes to Norwegian lyrics. The new songs blew me away, and the album has become one of my favorites. After the concert I actually got to meet Unni in person. I was so starstruck I almost couldn’t say anything. But I bought the album from her, and she signed it. Actually the signature is pretty special, because we found out her middle name is the same as my name, so she signed with both her names and she told me she don’t usually do that. I had forgotten my camera that day of course, so I didn’t get a picture with her. But I did take a picture of her with my cellphone with the sucky camera:
(In those days cameras on phones weren’t good at all, not like now with my HTC Desire HD with an 8mp camera…)
I should stop here. I could keep raving on about how great Unni Wilhelmsen is, but I think you get the point. Instead I leave you with the music videos of one of my favorite songs, "Humbly for her":
PS: I recommend you go to Unni Wilhelmsens MySpace site. There you can listen to some of her songs, and watch her music videos. : Unni Wilhelmsen

This is one of the best books I have read in a while. Or rather listened to as an audio book. I was so caught up in it I went around in a daze while listening to this great story. Allende has a way of writing that kind of sooths me. Is that a weird thing to say? I get swept away to another world inside my head, and I didn’t want to leave it. The story is so good, and I desperately wanted it to be true. It is written so close to reality that you can almost believe it all, but far enough from reality to let you dream and lose yourself in that world. It is a young adult novel, and Amazon say it is suitable for age 10 and up. But don't let that scare the older people off. Allende doesn't write in a "childish" way at all, as I have found in some young adult books. It only means you can share this wonderful book with more people.
